Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease is currently circulating in many communities, so it’s important for parents, caregivers, and school staff to recognize the symptoms and know how to prevent its spread. Here’s what you should know:

What Is HFMD?

A common viral illness that mostly affects children under 5. Symptoms include fever, painful mouth sores, sore throat, loss of appetite, and a rash on hands, feet, or buttocks.

How It Spreads:

Through saliva, nasal mucus, blister fluid, stool, contaminated surfaces, and droplets from coughing or sneezing.

Who’s at Risk?

Young children are most affected, but anyone can catch HFMD. Pregnant individuals should contact their doctor if exposed.

Prevention Tips:

• Wash hands often with soap and water

• Teach kids to cover coughs and sneezes

• Disinfect toys and high-touch surfaces

• Avoid sharing utensils and cups

• Keep hands away from the face

For Schools:

Inform families of exposure, monitor symptoms, and exclude students with fever or those unable to maintain hygiene due to new HFMD symptoms.
